Voodoo Lily Café is starting a “Little Free Library”. Little Free Libraries play an essential role in their societies by providing free access to books, and cultivating a love of reading!
Little Free Library is an international non-profit organisation that inspires a love of reading, builds community, and sparks creativity by encouraging neighbourhood book exchanges around the world. This will now also be available at your favourite Birdhaven café – Voodoo Lily.
According to the organisation’s website, three quarters of people report that they’ve read a book they would not normally have read because of a Little Free Library.
Little Free Libraries work on the “take a book, return a book” principle, and the one at Voodoo Lily Café is no different. And, while you’re here, you can enjoy your favourite meal with friends and family.
The Little Free Library offers a way to share good reading material — favourite books from your childhood, or books you would recommend to friends. These may be books that teach, intrigue, and engage you, or business books from which you’ve learnt something and that can now help someone else. All Voodoo Lily Café customers can help by keeping the collection stocked with good literature.
The library belongs to everybody that visits Voodoo Lily Café – customers, tenants at Wrenrose centre, neighbours, friends, and people we don’t even know yet. We want everybody to feel welcome to use it.
Anyone can take a book. If you see a book you would like to read, you can take it. Have a look inside the book to see who gave it or who else has read it. Either return it to the Little Library or pass it on to a friend. Give books to the Little Free Library by bringing them to Voodoo Lily Café. Leave notes in the books while you enjoy your favourite coffee. Be part of something special and “pay it forward”!
Through the Little Free Library, Voodoo Lily Café supports reading for children, literacy for adults, and libraries around the world.
